Glass Grass

Glass Grass

The collaborative sculptures by Louise Colson and Gina Murray express a painterly approach to kiln-formed glass.  The innate human desire to be connected to nature and the stunning beauty of the natural world provides sources of inspiration. Glass, a renewable resource formed from the natural alchemy of sand and heat is the most appropriate medium for this expression.

The ancient Egyptian technique of kiln-fused glass, coupled with a kindred aesthetic vision, led to the creation of this body of work. Using this art form connects us to a shared past where living in harmony with the seasons and respect for nature was the common way of being.  These pieces offer an antidote and a contrast to the exploitation of nature so evident in modern life.

Grass is a vibrant, sensual life form symbolic of survival and emotional well-being. The feel of grass under bare feet, the smell of freshly cut grass, the visual beauty of endless fields, and listening to grass rustle in the breeze are universal experiences.

The joyful expression of these natural forms, the magic of the mundane, is visually delightful and intended to inspire a deeper appreciation for the natural world. “Glass Grass” is inspired by Kissing Rock in Brookside.
